LFT: Study shows teacher pay losing ground

(Baton Rouge – August 31, 2016) Teacher salaries are falling behind those of similar professions, according to a new study from the Economic Policy Institute which reveals that U.S. teachers’ weekly wages are 17 percent lower than comparable workers’.

Dues Increase Notice 2016

On August 4, 2016 at the scheduled BCFPE Executive Board Meeting & June 22nd General Membership Meeting, membership were notified of the pass thru dues increase for both the state and national federations. The pass thru dues increase totals $0.37per pay making the BCFPE dues deduction a total of $23.96per pay effective September 1, 2016.  

We understand this is a tough year for all employees and considered every alternative. The increase is a pass-through to cover the monthly increases raised by our AFT-Maryland and AFT National affiliations.

The Healthcare workers at Danbury and New Milford Hospitals have been granted another chance by the NLRB to have a Union Election to determine if they can be represented by a Union. They want to have a voice.

The last time they tried to form a union, the WCHN administration broke the law through intimidation, retaliation and making promises that never came to be.   Our colleagues have asked us to support them in their endeavor to form a union, to have a voice in the decisions that directly impact their work conditions, and their ability to give safe patient care.

Educators Win Historic Union Charter School Organizing Victory in Cleveland

In a historic first for Cleveland, teachers and support staff at University of Cleveland Preparatory School voted overwhelmingly to join the Ohio Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers, hoping to improve conditions for students and teachers. Health Care Premium Increase for non-union Employees

As part of the "austerity" budget bill passed in May 2016, non-union State employees will pay up to 18 percent of the total premium share for their medical coverage starting in October 2016.  This represents a near two-fold increase. Dental coverage premium share will remain the same, only the employee portion of the medical coverage will be increased.   The increase in the employee share of the medical premiums does NOT impact union employees.
